I mean, I guess I COULD go out but why would I? I I mean, I guess I COULD go out but why would I? I have a hot cup of tea, cozy sweatpants, and a ton of Korean books to read and study with (I love the stories in this one!) And most important of all, I have my snuggly 강아지 to keep me company. (Okay he's technically a 개 now but he will always be a 강아지 to me!)

Do you have a pet who "helps" you study? Tell me what it is in another language you know!

Korean grammar is hard y'all. The only thing that Korean grammar is hard y'all. The only thing that works for me is to practice it by writing and speaking to actually use it.

Which grammar point do you find hard lately? For me it's remembering the order for using 보다 in comparisons. It's not even hard really, I just kind up the order!

PSA - you don't need someone else's "reason" for y PSA - you don't need someone else's "reason" for your language learning to be valid.

Do I need Korean for work or school or because I'm moving to Korea? No, no, and also no.

Do I love learning Korean? Yes!

I want to read and understand. I want to watch dramas without subtitles. I want to grasp song lyrics. I want to watch variety shows and vlogs with my favourite artists and catch what they're saying without relying on translations. If I'm ever lucky enough to attend a fan meet in person or online, I want to be able to speak in Korean to my favourite idols.

And if I travel to Seoul one day, I'd love to have conversations in Korean.

Language learning is "just a hobby" for me. But it challenges me, it fuels me, and it makes me so happy (when it isn't frustrating me lol).

Hobbies are valid ways to spend your time. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Why do you love language learning?

Sometimes, as a language learner you can feel like Sometimes, as a language learner you can feel like you're not sure you're even progressing. I feel that way sometimes. But I am, and you are too. Sometimes it's important to look back and remember where you were a year ago, six months ago, one month ago.

I know that this time last year I wasn't able to read an early intermediate level story. Now I'm reading this book and I understand most of it so far. The parts I don't fully understand, I can get through the gist of it.

Make sure you make time to really measure what you're doing so you can look back and say, "oh. Oh, I really AM doing great!"

And just keep at it. You're progressing more than you think.

I can't go back in time. And really, when I was yo I can't go back in time. And really, when I was younger there weren't so many options and resources available. Still, sometimes I think about how fluent I am in French because I started at age 4 (I grew up in Montreal so I had little choice), and I could cry thinking about how well I could speak Korean right now if I'd started even ten years ago.

Then again the important thing is really that I'm doing it now. What's that old proverb? The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago; the second best time is now. Maybe we can say the same thing about language learning. And now, while I'm nowhere near as good as I want to be, I am way better in Korean than a year and a half ago when I thought 안녕하세요 was too hard to say 🤣

Do you ever wish you'd started sooner? Have you started yet?

This is what my phone sees all the time when im le This is what my phone sees all the time when im learning new Korean vocab, phrases, or grammar points. If I read a caption in Korean and don't understand, I'm looking up words on Naver or Papago. Watching a drama and want to look up the grammar i just heard? I'm on Naver or the How To Study Korean site. I need to write something for my Korean class? Yep, Naver or Papago!

Of course this is also what I look like when I'm looking up new KPop songs on Spotify or trying to see if there's any official announcement regarding the end of Taemin's enlistment!

What are you doing when your phone sees you doing this?
